What is it for?

To join a pipe to a 1.5 inch female threaded fitting but so that they can be taken apart again

Where do you use it?

To join a pipe to a female threaded fitting where you will want to disconnect the pipes. For example if your pump or heater is fitted with female threaded inlet and outlet, you screw the male thread of this fitting in to it, glue the pipe in the other side but you can disconnect the union at any time.
